About Us

Payson City is located in the southern part of the Utah Valley at the base of the Wasatch Mountains. Payson is known as both an agricultural and residential community and has some of the best views of Utah Valley and Utah Lake. Nestled against the foothills of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, Payson was originally named after the Ute Indian Chief Peteetneet (meaning “little waters”). The name was later changed to Payson in honor of its first founder, James Pace...
Payson is the gateway to one of the nation’s most scenic byways: the Mount Nebo Loop. Gladstan Golf Course, located at the base of the mountains, utilizes the mountainous surroundings to create a breath taking and surprisingly challenging golf course. The city recently purchased 500 acres near the mouth of Payson Canyon. The property will be an environmental and will accommodate trails and parks for those wanting to enjoy the canyon and many surroundings. This aggressive move by the city will protect the surrounding natural beauty for generations. Payson City and Utah County are known for its well- educated, youthful work force. The work ethic is strong and the regulatory environment is sensible. This high-tech mecca with its pro-business climate gives the area economic strength. Housing is affordable and the market ever changing. The area has been ranked for years as one of the best places to live in America.

Groundbreaking

Governor Gary Herbert and Rebecca Lockhart, Speaker for the Utah House of Representatives, (center), help veterans and other local dignitaries break ground on a new veterans home in Payson. PAYSON -- Veterans from throughout Utah County gathered in Payson on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 to participate in the ground breaking of a veterans home, which is scheduled for completion in April 2013. Dignitaries from throughout the state and county participated in the event, including many who were key in the decision to build the home in Payson.

The land for the site of the Utah Veterans Home was contributed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through its real estate arm, Farmland Reserve. A representative from the church, Robert Oaks, an emeritus member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, was in attendance and spoke of the excitement the First Presidency of the church feels about being a part of the facility.

"I am here to announce the enthusiasm the First Presidency feels in being able to participate," Oaks said. "Great work is done on a day-to-day basis in these facilities. We know that this will be one of the grandest care facilities in the state and country."

Payson Mayor Rick Moore, along with members of the city council and city administration, worked hard to help bring the facility to Payson.

"I appreciate the support we have from our veterans," Moore said. "They are a strong, close-knit group. This facility is a win-win for both sides. It will be a great facility but it will also be good for economic development."

The Utah Veterans Home in Payson will employ between 140 and 160 people, with a payroll including benefits of nearly $4 million annually. An additional $3 million will also be spent on goods and services, many purchased from local businesses.

The facility will primarily serve veterans from Utah, Carbon, Emery, Juab, Millard and Sevier counties, but will be open to all Utah residents who qualify as veterans.

If you are interested in making a donation to the Payson Veterans Home, checks can be made out to the Utah Department of Veterans Affairs. Include a notation as to the purpose and whether the funds are restricted to a specific expenditure or non-restricted, which allows the fund to be used for any item of furniture, furnishing, etc. that is needed. All contributions of $100 or more will be noted on a permanent Honor Wall. A room sponsorship is $4,000, which is enough to furnish one room. A special plaque will be placed outside the room. Please mail donations to Utah Department of Veterans Affairs, attn. Dennis McFall, 550 Foothill Blvd. #202, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84158. For additional information call (801) 326-2372
